Use the Attach Blank Excel Document command from the ActiveData For Office SQL Edition Attachments tab to open a blank worksheet in a new Excel workbook from ActiveData For Office SQL Edition and save it as an attachment to the database for future use. This feature allows you to record notes and data as you perform analysis and keep the workbook attached to your work.

In addition, if you open an Excel attachment from the Attached Documents list and leave it open, ActiveData For Office SQL Edition generates results on a new tab in that workbook when you select Write Results To Worksheet as an output option. Note that you cannot open a new, blank Excel attachment from the Attached Documents list immediately and have ActiveData For Office SQL Edition generate output to that workbook; you must first close ActiveData For Office SQL Edition, restart it, and then open the attached workbook.

When you select the Attach Blank Excel Document command, ActiveData For Office SQL Edition adds the default name, Book1.xls (or Book1.xlsx in Microsoft Office Excel 2007), to the Attached Documents list in the lower left corner of the ActiveData For Office SQL Edition screen, and Excel opens a worksheet in the new workbook in a separate window.

Attach Blank Excel Document - Book1.xls

When you close the new Excel workbook, ActiveData For Office SQL Edition saves it for you with the default name, Book1.xls, in the ActiveData For Office SQL Edition folder in My Documents. You cannot enter and save any information in the workbook at this point; ActiveData For Office SQL Edition saves only the blank workbook. Book1.xls appears as an Attached Document in the lower left corner of the ActiveData For Office SQL Edition screen. If you scroll slightly to the right in the Attached Documents window, you can see that the Type for the new workbook is shown as Excel Workbook.

If there is already at least one document in the Attached Documents list, ActiveData For Office SQL Edition also lets you attach a blank Excel workbook by selecting an attachment, selecting Attach New Document from the right-click menu, and then selecting Excel Workbook....

After you have attached a blank Excel workbook to the database, use Manage Attachments commands on the Attachments tab to work with the document:

If there are no other documents in the Attached documents list and the Manage Documents commands on the Attachments tab are still unavailable (greyed out), close the database from the Database tab and reopen it so the Manage Documents commands are available.
